WhatsApp will stop working on these phones soon: Check the list
WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging apps in the world right now. Android, iOS, KaiOS almost all mobile devices, support Facebook's messaging app. But this is 2020, and even WhatsApp has come up with bad news for some smartphone users. From January 1, 2021, WhatsApp will not support some of the smartphones with some older operating systems, and that list is quite long.
WhatsApp stopping support for legacy phones:
Just as there are several Android smartphones on that list, there are also several iPhones. According to the WhatsApp FAQ page, from now on, WhatsApp will only work on smartphones that have Android 4.0.3 and other newer versions. WhatsApp will support iOS 9 and later versions of the iPhone. We made a list of smartphones that will not support WhatsApp:
List of iPhones
WhatsApp will no longer support iPhone 4 and its earlier models from January 1 of the new year. Other than that, if a customer has an iPhone between iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6S, he needs to update to iOS 9. Then he will be able to use WhatsApp again. Users of iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone SE can update to iOS 14.
List of Android Phones
On the other hand, in the case of Android smartphones, there are also several older operating system models, which will no longer support WhatsApp. That list includes HTC Desire, LG Optimus Black, Motorola Droid Razr, Sony Xperia Z1, HTC One M7, Moto X, Xiaomi Mi 3, and Samsung Galaxy S2. The list will include several more Android smartphones, which will be announced later by the company. Android users who still have the old operating system on their smartphone should update to OS 4.0.3 and other new operating systems soon. Only then can WhatsApp be used.
List of Kai OS Phones
However, the Facebook-owned instant messaging platform will keep the app running for select phones with KaiOS 2.5.1+ OS, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2.

Why WhatsApp has is cutting support for legacy devices?
To understand that, we have to look at the share of devices with various Android OS. We can easily see in the graph that only 0.02% of devices use legacy android versions (4.0.2 - 4.0.3). WhatsApp has to update, maintain its software to support only those small amount of devices. After cutting those, they can focus more on the upcoming OSes.
